Colorado voters will decide this year, whether to introduce a state funded, single payer health system in the state. It's already sparking concerns about costs that could overwhelm the state budget.
As an alternative to Obamacare, the proposed ColoradoCare would be funded by a ten percent payroll tax, raising $25 billion a year to fund the single payer system.
This week, Jeff Wasden, president of the Colorado Business Roundtable, and Kelly Sloan, Colorado-based consultant and policy fellow at Centennial Institute discuss the considerations of the proposed system. Among concerns is the inevitability of health care rationing as we see in Great Britain, where sixteen thousand surgical procedures have been deemed "unnecessary" due to health care rationing and cost controls. Likewise, the unfortunate term "death by queuing", which references the wait for needed care and compounded costs for treatment due to delayed diagnosis.
