This week Connect & Collaborate brings you Energy 101. Our Energy contributor and co-host, Emily Haggstrom talks with Shawn Martini, Communications Director for Consumer Energy Alliance. Consumer Energy Alliance represents energy consumers in the debate over energy policy, and advocates for increased domestic production of all forms of energy, from renewables like solar and hydro-electric to traditional forms of energy including oil and gas.
In this episode we discuss the issues and upcoming ballot measures, effecting energy decisions in the state.
Consumer Energy Alliance is a non-profit, membership organization. If you would like to learn more or get involved, visit their website at ConsumerEnergyAlliance.org
Later on in the program, we speak with Jason Hallmark, photographer and owner of Hallmark Photos who is documenting the oil boom and it's effects in Williston, North Dakota. The rugged, rural landscape has been dramatically changed in the past few years, as expanded drilling in the Bakken oil shale region has exploded with the increased use of hydraulic fracturing techniques. Oil field workers, moving to the Bakken for opportunities in the oil industry have contributed to a huge population boom, requiring major infrastructure improvements and major changes in small town life.
Here are some of Hallmark's photos that we discuss in our interview:
