As the leader of USMCA Coalitioncongressional outreach efforts, Business Roundtable this week organized more than 100 Capitol Hill visits with members and senior staff to support passage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). In their lobbying meetings, nearly 100 company and association representatives from all sectors of the economy stressed the USMCA's numerous benefits. "As a group collectively, it's a powerful message we can share about how all these different industries and commodities can come together to emphasize how important our trade with Canada and Mexico is to their bottom line and then also how the USMCA modernizes NAFTA," said Business Roundtable Vice President Paul DeLaney in an interview with The Hill. Separately, Business Roundtable joined 600 national, state and local business associations in a letter to Congress citing the economic importance of North American trade to the U.S. economy and calling for passage of USMCA-implementing legislation.

Business Roundtable on Thursday released a newly-adopted policy position on the federal minimum wage. "Business Roundtable supports an increase in the minimum wage. The federal minimum wage has not been raised since 2009, the longest period since its inception. Due to inflation, it has lost significant value and no longer provides an adequate income to many working Americans who depend on it," the position says. "To minimize the potential for job losses and other adverse economic effects, Business Roundtable believes an increase should be phased in over several years. In setting a new minimum wage, Congress should take account of regional differences in average wages, as well as the impacts on small and medium-sized businesses. Congress should also consider the special circumstances of tipped employees." The policy position goes on to highlight companies' commitment to the prosperity of American workers, including investing in workforce, education and skills training. "Many Business Roundtable members have raised their own wage floors and we believe it is time to take similar action on a national level," the position concludes.
