On Wednesday, August 3 COBRT was joined by U.S. Representative Jared Polis and other leaders in industry, government and education at CAP Logistics for the Reason for Reform campaign's National Day of Action with Partnership for a New American Economy (PNAE).

This day of action for immigration reform was led by a coalition of business and community leaders who together held 62 events in all 50 states. Each event featured the release of a new, state-specific research report with the latest data on the economic contributions of immigrants to each state.  Some highlights from the report on immigrants' contributions to Colorado's economy:
  • Immigrant-owned businesses generated half a billion dollars in business income in 2014. More than 83,000 people in Colorado are employed at firms owned by immigrants.
  • In 2014, immigrants in Colorado earned $14.1 Billion. After taxes, that left them with $10.8 B in remaining spending power.
  • Undocumented immigrants in Colorado earned $3.0 Billion in 2014. $114.1 M went to state and local taxes, and $199.6 M went to federal taxes... Leaving them with $2.7 B in remaining spending power.

New State Website Celebrates Companies That Have Chosen Colorado

From OEDIT:
Since 2013, more than 111 companies have announced expansions or relocations in the state bringing in more than 27,076 jobs. These projects have supported net new job creation in Colorado's urban and rural communities across diverse industries of small and large firms.
While national rankings continue to list Colorado in the top for living and doing business, OEDIT wanted a channel where they could provide more in-depth insights than just a list to showcase why being in Colorado is good for business.

"Before we began the process of developing a new website, we conducted a survey of business executives both in and out of state to learn about their impressions of Colorado and where there might be opportunities for our marketing efforts," said Liz Cahill, chief marketing officer for OEDIT. "We learned that more than half of the respondents had positive feelings associated with the state including confidence in the business climate, emboldened by a smart workforce, and inspired by our location. Our issue was that our website didn't communicate any of these optimistic outlooks..."  Read more

By Todd Hauer, Morgan Stanley: Morgan Stanley's latest Investor Pulse Poll revealed that nearly 3 out of 4 high net worth (HNW) investors - those with $100,000 or more in household liquid assets - are concerned about identify theft, even ranking ahead of terrorism and a major illness in one's household.

Fully nine in 10 respondents report being impacted by data security issues in some form. The most common issue these investors have faced is a security breach at a company with which they do business. Moreover, a sizable one in six report a data breach having occurred at their employer. In addition to security breaches, many of them have been victims of computer viruses and stolen credit or debit card numbers as well.

In spite of these breaches, roughly half or more have at least some degree of trust that their financial institutions, doctors and hospitals, employers, communications providers and the retailers where they shop will protect their personal information.

proposed rule by federal financial regulators  to restrict incentive-based compensation is overly prescriptive, creates tax compliance difficulties and would make U.S. financial institutions less globally competitive, Business Roundtable  said in an official comment letter . "The proposed rule will also make it difficult for the institutions that pump capital through the U.S. and global economies to attract top talent," wrote John Hayes of Ball Corporation, Chair of BRT's Corporate Governance Committee.  In addition, he wrote, the proposed rule would add burdens for record keeping and corporate governance. BRT outlined four approaches for improving the rule, which was proposed under the Dodd-Frank Act by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and five other financial regulatory agencies.   Learn more
