Presented by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at the University of Colorado Denver Business School
The University of Colorado Denver Business School is presenting an interesting lecture series next week aimed at teaching Denver students principle-based ethics, emphasizing real-world application of ethical principles, and extending ethical behavior beyond campus and into the community. Presented by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at the University of Colorado Denver Business School, the November 4th talk is titled “The Ethical Misadventures of FIFA” and will surround the ethics (or lack thereof) of the FIFA organization, and how the recent indictments may shape the future of the world’s most popular sport in a way that can increase its transparency, integrity, and stakeholders’ trust.
With the FIFA indictments in the news daily, this topic offers students a real world case study in the business of sports. Professor Alan Tomlinson from the University of Brighton, UK will be the distinguished speaker. His work has probed the ethical dimensions of the organizational practices, and of selected individuals, within FIFA.
The University of Colorado Denver Business School recently received a grant to participate in the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative. The goal is to educate students in ethics and to convey that doing what is right prevails over self-interest when the two may appear to be in conflict. In each of the next five years, the University will focus on ethics in a different academic specialization in the Business School. This academic year, the focus is on Sports and Entertainment Management. Future years will include information systems, energy, health care and entrepreneurship.
Interaction with the business community is an important aspect of the Ethics Initiative and we are encouraging the public and members of Denver’s business community to attend.
This event is open to all current CU Denver students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as the local business community.
