The Denver Office of Financial Empowerment and U.S. Department of the Treasury invite you to an informational session on Wednesday, Feb. 17, regarding the Treasury Department’s myRA (my Retirement Account) program – a no-fee retirement savings account developed by the U.S. Treasury to help people who don’t have access to employer-sponsored retirement savings plans or lack other options to start saving for retirement.
Earlier this month, Denver Deputy Mayor and Chief Financial Officer Cary Kennedy welcomed U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew for a Town Hall meeting with members of Denver’s small business and nonprofit communities to discuss the importance of financial inclusion and myRA.
Denver shares the U.S. Treasury Department’s commitment to delivering affordable financial services to low-income residents. The city recently announced the establishment of the Office of Financial Empowerment, which offers free one-on-one financial coaching, connections to affordable financial products and services and other vital financial literacy tools and resources to help Denver residents reduce their debt, increase their savings and build their credit. Denver’s 11 Financial Empowerment Centers have served over 3,000 clients who have reduced their overall debt load by nearly $2 million and developed new savings of close to half a million dollars.
The Feb. 17 session will bring together VITA site representatives, financial counselors, local business leaders and nonprofit organizations in the Denver-area for a presentation on the program and breakout sessions focused on how to share myRA with your employees, networks and tax clients as well as how to fund an account with a tax refund.
The Office of Financial Empowerment and U.S. Treasury look forward to your participation and insights on communicating about myRA with employers, consumers, tax clients and employees in the communities you serve.
